“Every since I was six years old I wanted to sing says Latoya”. With a voice of an angel, Latoya sings this song from the heart along with her cousin Minister Eric Terry.
Latoya was born in Oberlin, Ohio in 1971 then was brought to Chattanooga six week after her birthday. Chattanooga is where her musical up bringing began.
She started singing in the church choir at New Emmanuel Baptist Church as a lead singer at the age of seven; need to say that everyone was impressed with this powerful little voice. As Latoya grew and went to high school, she began to sing at a lot of school functions and became a popular favorite. Latoya learned how to play the clarinet and joined the marching band which helped her to develop strength and musical stamina in entertainment.
As an adult, Latoya has performed with gospel groups such as The Chattanooga Mass Choir, Touch and Deliver, Joyful Noise Phase Two, The Third Generations Gospel Singers, and The Hunter Singers which she still sings with on occasion.
Most of Latoya’s influences were Ms Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Shirley Caesar, The Hunter Singers, and her god mother Wyllene Bonner. “I think I’m more influenced by Aretha Franklin” said Latoya. “Either way I hope people will be blessed by my music and get the message of hope that I’m trying to get across”. It’s important that people understand that Jesus is the way to salvation first and foremost and that every thing else will be added to you life that is according to God’s will. Latoya’s favorite verse is, Romans 8:28; “And we know all things work together for good to them that love god, to them who are the called according to his purpose”.
Latoya is accompanied by her cousin, Minister Eric Terry on this particular single “Jesus Cares”. Eric brings to this song a deep feeling of the love that the Lord has for us. Together in song they minister to the listener of how the Father loves and cares for them and wants to bring them through their trials and tribulations.
Minister Eric Terry was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in September of 1972 where he grew up in a musical and god fearing family. Eric knew early on that he was blessed with a vocal talent. In high school Eric performed in various talent shows. He went on to perform with people such as Touch and Deliver, Totally Committed, Eric Terry and Purpose, and Minister Eric Terry and Worship.
He is now the Associate pastor at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church.
