In 1998, God gave Ken a dream that would become his heart's desire, and called him to begin a musical journey that would be unlike most others. It all started at the tender age of six when Ken accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Like many young Christians in the faith, Ken would not understand until sometime in his early adult life how God wanted more than just a commitment, He wanted a 'relationship.' Throughout his high school years, Ken struggled to understand this 'relationship' concept and wasn't walking with he Lord. Nonetheless, God was equipping and preparing him for the calling that would be bestowed upon him in the time to come.
Ken pursued his musical endeavors during his high school years by participating in concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble, and selected choirs. However, coming from a family who could not help financially support him through college, Ken's musical journey came to an end and he surrendered music all together. After being separated from his musical passions for several years, Ken's heart yearned to become closer to God and worship him using his musical gifts; the beginning of understanding this 'relationship' that the Lord was seeking. Ken's longing soon transcended towards the purchase of a used trumpet and a commitment to the praise and worship team at the church where he and his wife Michele were now serving. It was during this time that Ken's gifts as a vocalist and trumpet player would grow and mature. With no formal musical training, God began molding His vessel.
Following a seven year period of preparation, God placed Ken and Michele back in their hometown of North East, Maryland, where they began serving in the music ministry at the First Assembly of God (Elkton, MD). As Ken's musical talents continued to grow and mature under the direction of music minister/producer Jeff Duffield, God placed the call for him to begin sharing his music through ministry in 1998. In 2000, Ken recorded his first CD project, This Kingdom, a composition of praise and worship songs from the late 1990's where Ken had incorporated some trumpet soloing into the arrangements. The success of this project then caught the attention of an independent artist development group, Incubator, who then took Ken under their wings and began to stretch Ken in his musical craft for the next two and a half years. It was a remarkable time of growth for Ken, musically and spiritually, as he studied and developed his songwriting skills while undergoing and incredible series of vocal training opportunities with the world renowned Dr. Scott Martin.
Soon, Ken felt pressed by the Holy Spirit that it was time to move in a new direction with his music ministry as he became an independent Christian musician and began writing his own songs. By 2006, Ken had written a handful of inspiring songs and self-produced a new CD project so appropriately named; A New Day. Through the online promotions that would follow in the next two years, Ken's musical efforts would not go unnoticed and in 2008 he was named one of the nominees for the Christian Independent Alliance Momentum Awards (Nashville, TN) under the Contemporary Artist of the Year category. While Ken did not take the ultimate prize, the nomination alone was momentous!
Later that same year, drawing on the scriptures found in James 2:17, God began to help Ken redefine the purpose of his musical ministry; to help believers put their faith to work! For some time, Ken and Michele had been sponsoring a child through World Vision, but it did not feel like it was enough. So Ken began pursuing World Vision's and became an Independent Associate Artist.
While Ken's music is now driven by his passion to see children in third world countries united with sponsors who are determined to put their faith into action, Ken is continuing to reach out to God's people in new and innovative musical ways. At the end of 2009, Ken released his third CD project, Reminiscing, an instrumental project featuring Ken's favorite sacred hymns set to some wonderful light jazz arrangements. It's just another way in which Ken is grabbing the attention of his fellow believers in hopes that they will see his passion for the children of World Vision.
Today Ken's dream is now a passion. His endeavor is to humbly walk in a simple faith, believing that through his music he can somehow leave this world a better place that will forever shine the light of Christ for all to see.
